1897 – Raymond Garcin (1897-1971), French neurologist; described Garcin-Guillain syndrome (1927), Signe de la main creuse de Garcin (1955), and Stern–Garcin syndrome (1962)
Deaths
1873 – Auguste Nélaton (1807-1873), French physician; described Nélaton’s line (Roser-Nélaton line), and Nélaton tumor (Dupuytren-Nélaton disease). Invented the Nélaton Probe (1862)
1923 – Fidel Pagés Miravé (1886-1923), Spanish military surgeon. Enduring place in anaesthesia history with his 1921 paper describing “anestesia metamérica”, a lumbar perimeningeal/epidural technique aimed at segmental blockade.
1990 – Harold Joseph Jeghers (1904-1990), American physician; described Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (1949)
1997 – Ziro Kaneko (1915-1997), Japanese neuropsychiatrist. Pioneer in the field of Geriatric Psychiatry in Japan. Together with Shigeo Satomura, he constructed the Doppler flowmeter
2000 – Leonid Ivanovich Rogozov (1934-2000), Russian surgeon; performed auto-appendicectomy on April 30, 1961
