1943 – Sir Robert Reynolds Macintosh (1897–1989) described his new curved laryngoscope Macintosh laryngoscope in The Lancet. He formalised the technique of placing the blade tip in the vallecula to indirectly elevate the epiglottis and expose the glottis.
