1822 – Alfred Poland (1822-1872), English surgeon; described Poland syndrome (1841), and Poland-Möbius syndrome
1856 – Sir Charles Alfred Ballance (1856-1936), English surgeon; described Ballance (triad) sign (1898). Ballance made numerous surgical firsts, including the complete removal of a cerebellopontine angle tumour and the first documented facial nerve crossover anastomosis (1895)
1923 – Barbara Mary Ansell (1923-2001), English paediatric rheumatologist; described Ansell-Bywaters-Elderking syndrome (1975)
