1936 – Following the death of Nobel laureate Ivan Pavlov (September 26, 1849 – February 27, 1936), the Soviet government ordered the renaming of the First Leningrad Medical Institute to the “Academician Ivan Pavlov First Leningrad Medical Institute” to honour his contributions.
2000 – Catherine Fenech, a long-time leader for better workplace safety in Canada, established International Repetitive Strain Injury Awareness Day, choosing February 29th as the only non-repetitive day on the calendar. During non-leap years, events are held on February 28th.
